The Seattle Mariners have acquired Seth Smith from the San Diego Padres in exchange for right-handed reliever Brandon Maurer.

Smith is expected to join Justin Ruggiano in a right-field platoon for the Mariners.

"We were in search of adding another outfielder. We've got a player that's a professional hitter, a guy that we think is going to give us really good [at-bats] especially against right-handed pitching," Jack Zduriencik said.

The New York Yankees have traded Shawn Kelley to the San Diego Padres in exchange for right-hander Johnny Barbato.

Barbato, 22, was a sixth-round selection in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft and pitched last season at Double-A San Antonio.

Kelley, who turns 31 in April, was 3-6 with a 4.53 ERA in a career-high 59 appearances this past season for New York.

The Giants acquired third baseman Casey McGehee on Friday night from the Marlins for a pair of right-handed minor league pitchers, finding their replacement for Pablo Sandoval.

San Francisco announced the trade late Friday. The World Series champions are sending Kendry Flores and Luis Castillo to the Marlins.

The Miami Marlins have acquired Martin Prado from the New York Yankees.

Miami will also receive David Phelps and cash in exchange for Nathan Eovaldi, Garrett Jones and Domingo German.

Brian Cashman confirmed that the Yankees will send $6 million to the Marlins in the deal -- $3 million in each of the next two years.

The San Diego Padres have acquired Justin Upton from the Atlanta Braves, according to sources.

Atlanta received minor league left-hander Max Fried, infielders Dustin Peterson and Jace Peterson, outfielder Mallex Smith and international bonus compensation.

The 27-year-old will make $14.5 million in 2015 and is set for free agency in 2016.

The Oakland Athletics have traded Derek Norris to the San Diego Padres.

Oakland got right-handers Jesse Hahn and R.J. Alvarez for Norris, right-hander Seth Streich and an international signing slot.

"I'm excited; this is a big opportunity," Norris said. "A chance to get out of the platoon."

Matt Kemp has joined the San Diego Padres after the club finalized a five-player trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night.

The teams agreed to the trade last week during the winter meetings in San Diego, but Kemp's physical delayed the transaction slightly.

San Diego also gets catcher Tim Federowicz. The Dodgers receive catcher Yasmani Grandal and right-handers Joe Wieland and Zach Eflin. The Padres will also receive $32 million to offset the $107 million remaining on Kemp's contract.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired cash from the Oakland Athletics for left-hander Eury De La Rosa.

De La Rosa, 24, began the 2014 season with Triple-A Reno and posted a 2.52 ERA in 36 relief appearances before being called up by Arizona July 5.

He then went 2-0 with a 2.95 ERA in 25 games for the Diamondbacks.

The Tampa Bay Rays have traded Matt Joyce to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for Kevin Jepsen.

Los Angeles views Joyce as their primary designated hitter and possible No. 2 hitter, which would allow Mike Trout to hit third.

"He gives us a lot of flexibility and makes us a deeper and more balanced team," Jerry Dipoto said. "We just felt like this was an opportunity for us to build a deeper and well-balanced lineup for 2015, and continue to move in such a way that we feel like we're making the team better."

The Washington Nationals will trade Ross Detwiler to the Texas Rangers in exchange for right-hander Abel De Los Santos and infielder Chris Bostick.

Detwiler had a disappointing 2014 season and his camp suggested to Washington that a trade be completed.
